McKaia Dykema is an attorney at the League of Minnesota Cities. Previously, Dykema worked as an associate at Kennedy & Graven and the manager of legal advocacy and legislative research for the National League of Cities, based in Washington, D.C. During law school, she clerked with Campbell-Knutson and externed with the City of Golden Valley, with work primarily focused on supporting the Just Deeds project. Prior to starting law school, Dykema had a career in public administration and worked for the City of Brooklyn Park as the strategic management coordinator and the City of Minnetonka as the assistant to the city manager. She graduated with her B.S. in political science with a minor in community development, magna cum laude, from North Dakota State University and her J.D. from Mitchell Hamline School of Law, summa cum laude, where she also served as a Student Bar Association representative. She was honored to receive the 2023 International Municipal Lawyers Association Charles Thompson Jr. Local Government Law scholarship while in school.
