Health Disparities Among Under-Resourced Communities
The JPPP Symposium brings together experts in health justice, medical practice, and indigenous health care. The Symposium’s goals are to examine the long-standing health care disparities and inequities that continue to face indigenous communities. The program will explore sources of systemic inequities, economic disadvantages, and environmental exposures that prevent individuals and their communities from achieving optimal health, leading to differences in health outcomes. The program closes with “poetic remarks” by Hakim Bellamy, a noted poet, author, and national and regional Poetry Slam Champion.
This is an important conversation about health disparities and the systemic social and economic inequities that affect marginalized populations, particularly Native American communities. We hope to identify not only health challenges but also potential solutions for this important policy issue.
