Film and Talk: Collaborating with the Enemy- Jews, Nazis, and Echoes for Today
Thursday, January 23, 7:00-9:00 pm at Mitchell Hamline School of Law, Conservatory Room 147, 875 Summit Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55105.
This program explores the complicated position of Jews who were assigned roles in ghettoes and concentration camps during the Holocaust and their positions as both victims and collaborators. The event includes a documentary about Chaim Rumkowski, the leader of the Jewish Council in the Łódź Ghetto in Poland.
Ellen J. Kennedy, Ph.D., will talk about the law that the Israeli Knesset passed in 1950 to adjudicate so-called Jewish “collaborators” living in Israel and the little-known trials that occurred from 1951-1964. Ken Engel, J.D., president of CHAIM: Children of Holocaust Survivors Association in Minnesota, will discuss the moral, ethical, and legal issues of collaboration, complicity, and responsibility, concluding with implications for today.
$10 general public, $5 students and seniors, $25 for lawyers for 2 CLE credits, free to Mitchell Hamline students.
