Mitchell Hamline and Judge Cindy McCollum need volunteer jurors this summer.
Advanced Advocacy: Civil Litigation
The first opportunity is Monday, June 2, 2025. This is a class the Mitchell Hamline students have chosen to take to learn/develop their trial skills. Most of the students in the class are in their third year of law school. The jurors need to arrive at 8:30 am. The trials will begin at 9:00 am. The trials should be done by 3:00 pm.
The name of the case the students will be trying is Darngood v. Landers. This is a civil case that arose out of a traffic accident.
National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA)
The second opportunity is on Thursday, June 26, 2025. Judge Cindy McCollum is hosting a NITA CLE at Mitchell Hamline. Attendees are practicing attorneys who want to enhance their trial skills. Jurors need to arrive by 7:45 am and the trials will start 8:00/8:30 and will be done by 12:00 noon.
The name of the case the attorneys will be trying is BMI v. Minicom. This is a contract case.
Advanced Advocacy: Criminal Trial
The third opportunity is on Monday, August 4, 2025. This is a class the Mitchell Hamline students have chosen to take to learn/develop their trial skills. Most of the students in the class are in their third year of law school. The jurors need to arrive at 8:30 am. The trials will begin at 9:00 am. The trials should be done by 3:00 pm.
The name of the case the students will be trying is State v. Chambers. This is a criminal case.
All the trials will be held at Mitchell Hamline School of Law, located at 875 Summit Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55105.
Schedule
There will be a short jury selection before each of the trials so the students/lawyers can practice that skill. During the trial, jurors will get a morning break and an afternoon break. A light lunch will be provided and will last approximately 25 minutes.
After the trial, the jurors will be asked to deliberate on a verdict, announce the verdict, and offer constructive feedback to the students/lawyers. Jurors will be provided with a small notebook pad and a pen to take notes during the trial.
You can be a juror in just one of the trials, or two of the trials or all three of the trials.
