Visiting Assistant Professor of Law
Engy Abdelkader’s teaching and research interests include public international law, civil rights and civil liberties, national security law, U.S. constitutional law, and law and religion. She has dedicated her path-breaking career to advancing social justice issues—from religious freedom and racial equality to the rights of immigrants, women, and children.
“Over the course of my legal career, interacting with experts from a spectrum of disciplines in myriad contexts, I’ve cultivated a keen appreciation for the versatility and value of a U.S. law degree. What distinguishes a legal education from other academic experiences—is the cultivation of critical thinking, analytic reasoning, and persuasive communication skills that facilitate success no matter the career trajectory. Whether you are advocating for a social justice cause on CNN, conducting cross-examination in court, penning an OpEd, negotiating a settlement, or delivering a CLE presentation, a good law school curriculum trains you how to navigate these experiences effectively. As a law professor, I want to help students achieve their goals by inculcating the skills necessary for their success irrespective of the career track selected.”
