George T. Simpson was rare among Minnesota’s night law school deans-he was born in the state. After attending the State Normal School in Winona, Minn., he completed his education at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He was admitted to the bar in 1894 in Wisconsin and, the following year, in Minnesota.
Simpson practiced in Winona until 1905; he also served as Winona city attorney for two years and Winona County attorney for four years. He came to St. Paul in 1905 when he was appointed Minnesota’s assistant attorney general. He was elected attorney general in 1908 and again in 1910 but left the office in 1912 to reenter private practice. From 1939 to 1947, Simpson again served as the state’s assistant attorney general.
