The Mitchell Hamline School of Law Journal of Public Policy and Practice is hosting a legislative forum that is free, open to the public, and will also be streamed online. The forum will be broken down into two panels, each addressing a hot button issue in the 2019 Minnesota Legislative Session.
This forum is intended to provide a discussion and critical analysis, all while informing the public on some of the issues their legislators will be addressing in the current session.
Panel One: Tax Legislation
The first panel will discuss matters pertaining to tax law, including Minnesota’s current tax conformity and reform efforts. Speakers for the first panel include:
- Senator Roger Chamberlain, Chair of the Senate Taxes Committee
- Senator Ann Rest, Ranking Minority Member of the Senate Taxes Committee
- Jenny Starr, Assistant Commissioner for the Department of Revenue
- Rep. Paul Marquart, Chair of the House Taxes Committee
- Rep. Joe McDonald, Former Vice Chair and Current Member of the House Taxes Committee
Panel Two: Marijuana Legalization
The second panel (which will begin at approximately 7:45pm) will be a critical and even-handed discussion of the prospects for recreational marijuana legalization in Minnesota. The speakers for this second panel include:
- Daniel Pollock, Deputy Commissioner for the Minnesota Department of Health
- Rep. Mike Freiberg (’05), Minnesota House of Representatives
- Jason Tarasek, Minnesota Political Director for the Marijuana Policy Project
- Republican to be named later
