Volunteers wanted for fall semester
We’re seeking volunteers to help law students practice their advocacy skills during the fall 2025 semester. There will be three topics to choose from with two-hour time slots to fill. Volunteers will see students in a one-on-one format for the exercises and will evaluate four students during the two-hour time slot (25 minutes with each student).

Deposing a witness
The volunteer will portray the witness for the students to depose. After the completion of the deposition, the volunteer will provide feedback regarding the students’ narrative probing and listening skills. The volunteers will be provided with facts to portray the witness.
- Sept. 16 at 8-10 am, 10-11:55 am, and 1-3 pm
- Sept. 18 at 6-7:55 pm and 8-9:55 pm
Motion hearing
The volunteer will serve as the judge. The judge will not rule on the motion but will provide feedback regarding the persuasiveness and completeness of the students’ argument. The volunteers will be provided with questions to ask the students during their motion presentation.

- Oct. 16 at 6-7:55 pm and 8-9:55 pm
Preparing a legislative staffer
The volunteer will serve as the legislative staffer. The students will present an issue to the staffer and advocate as to why their position on the issue should be part of the legislator’s agenda. The volunteers will be provided with materials needed to portray the staffer.

Volunteers can use their Mitchell Hamline volunteer time as pro bono hours.
