The $210 million settlement between the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis and 450 victims of clergy sex abuse, announced Thursday, May 31, is “a story of trauma to triumph,” said victims’ attorney Jeff Anderson ’75.
The settlement is believed to be the largest-ever in a Catholic bankruptcy case.
“I’m almost at a loss for some words because there are some feelings that are overwhelming,” said Anderson, quoted in the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “We have reached a negotiated settlement that not only includes accountability and financial accountability, but it actually advances the ball of child protection in a way that has never been seen in this country before.”
