Join the federal government’s First Generation Academy for Emerging Professionals to get trained via four first-gen specific courses!
About this Event
The federal government for the first time is specifically reaching out to low-income, first gen college students interested in public service and giving them the resources they need to successfully transition to the federal workforce and realize their full potential. We want our federal workforce to have representation from the broad socio-economic spectrum of the diverse American population that we serve.
The webinar is specifically designed to cover the four most prevalent topics that research shows facilitates a welcoming and opportunistic environment for first gen emerging professionals. All topics are open to join with no limitation on the number of sessions you can attend.
The webinars are as follows:
4:00 – 5:00 PM EST: Networking 101 – Jeanita Pritchett, Academic Program Manager in the National Institute of Standards and Technology1
5:00 – 6:00PM EST: Financial Literacy; Understanding the Financial Quagmires for FGPs – Alan Sorcher, Assistant Director of the Office of Investor Education and Advocacy in the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission
6:00 – 7:00PM EST: Navigating the Unwritten Rules for Career Success – Charles Clark, Director of the Office of Human Capital Strategy in the US Department of Commerce, and Stacy Carter, Director of the Policy and Evaluation Division in the US Department of Commerce
7:00 – 8:00PM EST: Combating the Imposter Syndrome – Tinisha Agramonte, Director of the Office of Civil Rights in the US Department of Commerce
There will be also be a followup session for first generation emerging professionals on August 7th where attendees of the Academy will be able to discuss presented topics and the unique challenges of being first generation, provide feedback about the Academy, and ask questions and advice to a panel of federal government first-generation professionals.
