Minnesota Supreme Court – Legal Resident Applications Now Being Accepted for Fall 2021
The Minnesota Supreme Court is seeking three Mitchell Hamline School of Law students to work as Legal Residents during the Fall Semester 2021. This is an extraordinary opportunity that is available to a small number of Mitchell Hamline students each year.
During Fall 2021, the Legal Residents will work under the supervision of Justice Anne McKeig, Justice Paul Thissen, and Justice Gordon Moore. All positions are full-time and the selected students will work in exchange for academic credit.
Applicants must meet the following qualifications:
• Student in their final year of law school.
• Strong academic performance while in law school.
• Superior research, writing, and analysis skills.
• Able to work in person or remotely as public health and the policies of the Minnesota Supreme Court allow.
• Students of underrepresented backgrounds are highly encouraged to apply.
The selected students will begin work for the Minnesota Supreme Court beginning in late August timed with the start of the fall semester. Work at the Minnesota Supreme Court is expected to be in-person this Fall. Applicants must be available to work in person at the Minnesota Supreme Court’s offices in St. Paul, Minn.
Students will be notified whether they have been selected as legal residents by or before Friday, July 30. Legal residents may not hold other legal employment during their semester working with the Minnesota Supreme Court.

• Cover Letter and a Statement of Interest (these should be combined into one document and the cover letter should be addressed to Justice McKeig, Justice Thissen, and Justice Moore).

All applications will be reviewed by a committee of Mitchell Hamline faculty and finalists will be forwarded to the Minnesota Supreme Court for review and consideration by Justice McKeig, Justice Thissen, and Justice Moore. The Justices will conduct interviews (via Zoom) during the last half of July.
