The Minnesota Supreme Court is seeking three Mitchell Hamline School of Law students to work as Legal Residents during the Spring Semester 2022. This is an extraordinary opportunity that is available to a small number of Mitchell Hamline students each year.

During Spring 2022, one Legal Resident will work under the supervision of Justice Anne McKeig. The second Legal Resident will work under the supervision of Justice Paul Thissen.  And the third Legal Resident will work under the supervision of Justice Gordon Moore. All positions are full-time and the selected students will work in exchange for academic credit.

Applicants must meet the following qualifications:

• Student in their final year of law school.
• Strong academic performance while in law school.
• Superior research, writing, and analysis skills.
• Legal Residents must be able to work in-person at the courthouse in St. Paul, Minnesota part-time each week during the spring semester; students will also work remotely.
• Due to Court rules, Legal Residents may not hold other legal employment during the semester in which they work for the Minnesota Supreme Court.
• The Justices of the Minnesota Supreme Court strongly encourage students of diverse or historically underrepresented backgrounds to apply.

Interviews: The Supreme Court will conduct interviews with selected candidates on Tuesday, December 7 from 1:30-3:30pm CT. If you choose to apply, please hold this time open on your calendars. Interviews will be conducted via Zoom.

Final Notification: The selected students will begin work for the Minnesota Supreme Court in late January timed with the start of the spring semester. Students will be notified whether they have been selected by or before Monday, December 21.

All applications will be reviewed by a committee of Mitchell Hamline faculty and finalists will be forwarded to the Minnesota Supreme Court for review and consideration.
