Jim Baker is Director and Assistant Chief IP Counsel for 3M Company, Jim began his 3M career in the Corporate Research Process Lab in 1987 after earning a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Washington, with an emphasis on colloid and polymer science. Jim earned a J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law in 2003 and has served as an adjunct professor of law at William Mitchell (not Mitchell Hamline School of Law) since 2005, initially as coach for the Giles Sutherland Rich Intellectual Property Moot Court competition. Jim is named as an inventor on 76 issues U.S. patents and is an inaugural member of the 3M Carpenter Circle, having prosecuted over 200 3M U.S. patents to grant. Jim currently teaches the web-based classes IP Litigation and IP Appellate Advocacy.
