Mitchell Hamline is again fielding a team at the Jeffrey Miller National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition, organized by Pace University Law School. This year’s competition will take place online.
Students chosen for the Mitchell Hamline team will write an appellate brief on several contemporary issues in environmental law, chosen by the sponsoring organization . The brief is written without faculty or other assistance and due no later than November 22, 2021. Students will then develop oral arguments with the assistance of faculty coaching ahead of the preliminary oral arguments on February 22, 2023. Team members should plan to invest substantial time each week working on the brief and preparing for oral arguments. The team is coached by Professor Konar-Steenberg and adjunct faculty. Students must have completed their first year to be considered. Students receive 2 credits.
Students interested in trying out should submit the following to Professor Konar-Steenberg no later than Monday, September 26, at mehmet.konar-steenberg@mitchellhamline.edu:
- brief explanation of interest (75-150 words)
- identify any prior moot court or law competitions experience (no previous experience is required; this info is for planning purposes)
- a short legal writing sample (e.g. argument section of a brief or motion memorandum)
- a short video-recorded oral argument sample based on one or more of the issues in the writing sample; webcam or camera phone is fine; video should be 3-5 minutes in length
