On Thursday, November 9 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm CT, World Without Genocide in partnership with the Germanic-American Institute and Mount Zion Temple will hold an event and book signing: Germany After the Holocaust – From Kristallnacht to Other Genocides.
This event will commemorate the 85th anniversary of Kristallnacht, nights of terrible violence in Nazi Germany and Austria, November 9 and 10, 1938. The streets were littered with broken glass from the windows of Jewish homes, businesses, and synagogues, earning the name, ‘The Night of Broken Glass.’
This event offers 2 CLE credits for Minnesota lawyers and illustrates key issues in human rights law:
- the distortion of and the use of law for murderous intent, illustrated by 433 laws throughout the Third Reich;
- the creation of the United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide; and
- the influence of transitional justice and the law in Germany’s subsequent national response through sanctions, aid, and other means to states perpetrating genocide.
This is a hybrid event – it is available as a webinar on Zoom or as an in-person event located at Mitchell Hamline School of Law, Conservatory and Great Room, 875 Summit Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55105.
This event includes a talk by Dr. Andrew Port, author of “Never Again: Germans and Genocide After the Holocaust,” viewing of the exhibit, “Genocide and Justice: From Nuremberg to the International Criminal Court,” and a dessert reception.
Registration is required by November 8: www.worldwithoutgenocide.org/kristallnacht
The program is open to the public: $10 general public; $5 students and seniors; $25 for 2 CLE credits for Minnesota lawyers; free to Mitchell Hamline students (Diversity Credits are available); ‘clock hours’ available for Minnesota teachers, nurses, and social workers.
