Target Corporation is seeking an extern from Mitchell Hamline during the Spring 2024 semester through its Law Scholars program.
During the externship, the selected student would be placed in Target’s in-house legal department and gain exposure through observation and hands-on experience to a wide variety of law and business matters including business transactions, litigation management, advising and counseling business stakeholders, and research, writing, and analyzing key business and legal issues affecting Target, its employees, and customers.
Time Commitment: Students are expected to work up to 12-15 hours a week and must be available to work starting in late January 2024. Students will have the opportunity to work in-person at the Target Corporation office in Minneapolis, Minnesota and must be able to provide their own reliable transportation to work.
Eligibility: This program is open to an upper level Mitchell Hamline student (part-time or full-time) who is in good academic standing. Applicants to the Target Law Scholars program will be evaluated holistically based on a mix of educational and professional qualities including academic contributions and success, demonstrated leadership qualities and service to their community, and expressed or demonstrated interest in the role of lawyers in law and business.
Law students from underrepresented backgrounds including, but not limited to, racial/ethnic background, gender, sexual orientation, and disability are encouraged to apply.
Academic Credit & Scholarship: Upon successful completion of the externship at the end of the spring semester, the selected student will receive academic credit for the externship. Upon completion of the externship, Target will also provide the selected student with a scholarship (financial stipend) intended to defray a small portion of the student’s tuition expenses. This scholarship will be included in the student’s cost of attendance budget. Questions about how this may affect the student’s financial aid should be directed to the Mitchell Hamline Financial Aid Office at finaid@mitchellhamline.edu.
Externship Registration: This externship is being offered for 4 academic credits and the selected student will be enrolled in the Law and Business Externship for Spring 2024. If the student is not able to allocate 4 credits to the externship, they may take it for a reduced number of credits as long as the student is able to complete the required number of work hours described above.
