The SBA Ways and Means committee had monies left over to distribute and came back and funded us for our full ask of childcare funding. We now have around $6,000 to distribute. After all applications are received by the financial aid office on February 1, and PALS has verified that applicants are members in good standing — we will approve as many members as possible for up to $300 in caretaking funds. If additional money is remaining after all application amounts are approved – the remaining funds be distributed and divided equally among applicants.

Parents And Caregivers Attending Law School is approved for additional funds from the SBA for members’ caretaking expenses. The funds will be distributed the same way they were during the fall semester. Members are eligible for up to $300 in funds. In the fall we could distribute the full amount requested to everyone who applied. However, since our funding amount is lower this time, we may only be able to approve partial requests so that as many students as possible can receive assistance.
The application is NOW LIVE here: PALS Childcare and Caretaking Fund Application | Dean of Students (mitchellhamline.edu)
The application deadline for Spring Semester is February 1, 2023.
In order to qualify, students must:
- Be currently enrolled as a degree-seeking student in the semester at the time of disbursement.
- Be an active member of PALS, subject to approval by PALS officers.
- Utilize funds for eligible caretaking expenses such as those outlined here: Eligible Dependent Care FSA (DCFSA) Expenses – FSAFEDS
Note: Receipts are not required but may be requested from financial aid. Childcare and caretaking funds will be included in a student’s estimated financial assistance. Students may not be eligible for funds if they have exceeded the maximum cost of attendance loan limit.
A special thanks to the SBA executive officers for their diligence on the SBA Budget to make sure this important service to our parents and caregivers continued. I also really want to thank PALS member and SBA representative Carrine Murphy for her advocacy within SBA.
