Spots available for the summer session and fall semester. Students who have completed their 1L year (with at least 24 credits completed) can participate, including remote and Hybrid students.
The Criminal Justice Defense Externship gives students the opportunity to gain valuable courtroom experience by representing clients in their criminal cases while working at a Public Defender’s office. There are placement opportunities with all of the Public Defender’s offices both in the metro area and in outstate Minnesota. Students do not need to bring a placement, but they can use a position they already have set up with a public defender’s office or a private defense lawyer for the externship.
