WHAT IS LAW REVIEW?
The Mitchell Hamline Law Review is composed of articles written by students, professors, and practitioners discussing relevant legal topics. This publication is entirely student managed. The journal is published and distributed to practitioners and is available on Westlaw, Lexis, and the Mitchell Hamline Law Review website.
HOW DO I JOIN?
Students can apply for Law Review by participating in and completing the Write-On Process. Full-time 1L students and Part-time 1L/2L students are invited to apply. You can sign up by filling out the registration form (https://forms.gle/x4PQMcmZyqdN5URVA). Registration closes Sunday, May 12, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. CST.
The Write-On Process takes place after finals, and over the course of three weeks: from May 15 – June 5, 2024. Applicants will complete a Bluebook quiz and write a case note (an analysis of a recent Minnesota Supreme Court decision). The Bluebook quiz will be distributed at 8:00 a.m. CST on Wednesday, May 15 and will be due at 11:59 p.m. CST on Wednesday, May 22. The case note portion will begin on Thursday, May 23 at 8:00 a.m. CST. Case note materials will be distributed at that time. Case notes are due on Wednesday, June 5 at 11:59 p.m. CST. All grading will be anonymous. Successful applicants will be notified in early July, prior to OCI interviews.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A LAW REVIEW ASSOCIATE?
Associates conduct authority checks, check citations, and make grammatical edits on assigned articles. Additionally, all Associates write a long paper during their time on law review, which satisfies the long paper requirement for graduation. MHLR publishes several student long papers in every volume.
For their services, Associates earn 3 pass/fail academic credits for the school year. These credits can be applied in Fall, J-term, or Spring semesters.
WHY JOIN LAW REVIEW?
Associates gain significant experience and exposure to legal writing and citation. Additionally, law review is a great networking and leadership development opportunity as well as a resume builder, and opportunity to work with students across sections.
