The Minnesota-Dakotas Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) is happy to announce that we are returning with a new and improved mentorship program for the 2024-2025 school year! The mentorship program is run through AILA’s New Member Division. Our goal is to introduce law students and new attorneys to members of the Immigration Bar and what it means to be a practicing immigration attorney.
Our mentorship program this year aims to serve a wide variety of students, whether you are dipping your toe into deciding whether immigration law is right for you, or are hoping to find your first job as an immigration attorney. The program is what you make of it—we can answer questions about practicing immigration law in a one-off coffee, pair with a formal mentor, or introduce you to attorneys open to allowing you to shadow them in immigration court.
If interested, please send Grace Fiddler, Heinz Law PLLC ([email protected]) and Calleigh McRaith, Davis Immigration Lawyers ([email protected]) a brief email providing us the following information:
· Your name and any information about yourself you would like us to know
· What type of immigration law you are interested in (family, removal defense, employment, etc. – it’s OK to express interest in more than one type)
· A brief description of what you would like to get out this program (ongoing mentor, job shadowing, one-time meeting to talk about immigration law, etc)
AILA also offers free membership for students, which includes access to the AILA jobs board where law clerk and attorney positions are posted. You can sign up for law student membership at https://www.aila.org/my-aila/application
