Target Corporation is seeking an extern from Mitchell Hamline during the Spring 2025 semester through its Diversity in Law Scholars program.
During the externship, the selected student would be placed in Target’s in-house legal department and gain exposure through observation and hands-on experience to a wide variety of legal and business matters including business transactions, litigation management, advising and counseling business stakeholders, and research, writing, and analyzing key business and legal issues affecting Target, it’s employees, and customers.
Time Commitment: Students are expected to work up to 10-12 hours a week and must be available to work starting the first week of February 2025. The precise scheduled will be determined by the student and their site supervisor at Target.
This is an in-person or hybrid position. The selected student must be available to work on-site at Target’s corporate offices in Minneapolis at least some portion of each week and must be available to work on-site at Target on Wednesdays during the Spring 2025 semester especially during the hours of 11am-1pm CT. The selected student must also be able to provide their own reliable transportation to work.
Eligibility: This program is open to an upper level Mitchell Hamline School of Law student (part-time or full-time) who

- is in good academic standing,

- has demonstrated leadership qualities and service to the community,

- has the intent to practice in Minnesota upon graduation,

- and is enthusiastic about a two or three credit (as selected by the student) externship field placement in the Target Law Department in the 2025 Spring semester.
A plus factor will be given to a student with a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The student must also be able to meet the time commitment described above.
Academic Credit & Scholarship: Upon successful completion of the externship at the end of the spring semester, the selected student would receive academic credit for the externship.
Target will also provide the selected student with a $5,000 charitable contribution for a scholarship (financial stipend) intended to defray a small portion of the student’s tuition expenses.
Externship Registration: This externship is being offered for 2-3 academic credits and the selected student will be required to enroll an externship for the spring semester.
