Transgender Identity: Rights and Challenges Locally and Globally, #4106, will be offered this fall on Tuesdays, 3:00-4:55pm CT, in a synchronous remote format, for 2 elective credits.
The course will be taught by Ellen J. Kennedy, Ph.D., Executive Director of World Without Genocide.
Mitchell Hamline is among the very few U.S. law schools offering a course exclusively on transgender rights.
In 1975, Minneapolis became the first city in the US to pass legislation for trans-inclusive civil rights protection. In the nearly half-century since that legislation, transgender rights have moved forward but now face a significant backlash locally and globally.
This course examines these competing trajectories and the legislation and policies affecting a transgender person’s life: education, health care, housing, criminal justice, employment, sport, arts, marriage and family, the legal system, and safety.
