Dear Mitchell Hamline School of Law students,
I am proud to announce my candidacy for the position of Vice President of MHSL’s Student Bar Association. I approach this opportunity with a solutions-oriented mindset and a steadfast resolve to foster growth, collaboration, and fulfillment in our community.
During my time at MHSL, I have served as a Minnesota Justice Foundation 1L Representative and a volunteer in the Self-Help Clinic and Street Law programs. I am also a court watch volunteer in Hennepin and Ramsey Counties through the Minnesota Freedom Fund. Prior to MHSL, I worked as an analyst in the legal and performance departments of TASC, Inc., Chicago’s foremost mental health and substance abuse nonprofit organization, and earned my master’s degree in Criminology, Law, and Justice from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
I believe that a liaison between the SBA’s Executive Committee and MHSL’s Student Organizations must take a personal interest in the day-to-day experiences, hopes, and concerns of their fellow students. Learning more about my peers and their passions, motivations for becoming attorneys, and affinities both on campus and virtually energizes me to enhance their experience even further. As co-chair of the Leadership Council, I will be an active listener to the needs and visions of our Student Orgs., show up for you as a social event organizer, and advocate on your behalf to the larger organizational bodies at MHSL, when appropriate. I will be thoughtful and consistent in my appointments to our committees and continuously develop and strengthen relationships with other members of the SBA.
A myriad of insights and valid concerns are expressed every day among MHSL students. I believe it is the duty and privilege of our SBA representatives to actively listen to, focus, and deliver those affairs to school leadership in the pursuit of tangible, realistic solutions. I hope to represent our student body next year with the primary goal of elevating the voices of my peers through purposeful cooperation. This can absolutely be accomplished through communication that is as flexible as it is direct and honest. I will never shy away from a new relationship, a difficult conversation, or a peer who is in need of a friend.
It’s with great humility and gratitude that I seek your vote for the Vice President of Mitchell Hamline’s Student Bar Association. Thank you for your support.
