Financial aid, tuition, and fees
- Financial aid can cover all costs including travel, housing, tuition, fees and expenses.
- Program fee: $450. Includes payment for all books, materials, field trips, and receptions.
- Tuition: $850/credit; course 1 is 2 credits ($1700) and course 2 is 1 credit ($850) Both courses cost $2550.
- Students must enroll in both courses unless they have already taken the classroom component at Mitchell Hamline. Attendance for both courses is in-person.

Deposit fee for all in-person participants: a $450 non-refundable deposit fee that must be paid upon application. 100% of the deposit is applied towards the program fee.
Those waiting on financial aid for tuition will not be assessed a late fee. Tuition refunds for those who withdraw from the program will be based on how long the participants were enrolled with no refunds for participants who have completed at least 60 percent of the program.
Participants should contact the financial aid officer at their home school to determine eligibility for financial aid. If you are waiting for financial aid to pay for your tuition and housing, you will not be assessed a late fee.

Program Participants should contact their home school financial aid office to determine eligibility for financial aid. The 2025-26 FAFSA will be available after December 1st and uses 2023 tax data. The total financial aid budget shown is eligible for loan financing. Mitchell Hamline scholarships cannot be applied to any off-campus or study abroad costs.
Program payment due date is by 9 am on Friday,May 23, 2025 unless a financial aid award letter copy is provided by May 9, 2025 as follows: Non-Mitchell-Hamline students: email an award letter to the MHSL financial aid office: 651-260-6437, finaid@mitchellhamline.edu. MHSL students will have their pending financial aid status confirmed with the Student Account office by May 23, 2025.
Accreditation
Law school accreditation
This program has been approved by the American Bar Association Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar only for students who are currently matriculated at Mitchell Hamline at the time of application. Accordingly, MHSL students can take this ABA-accredited class for law school credit. However, the program has not yet undergone accreditation for for credit at other ABA schools. Students from non-ABA schools should confirm with their institution whether it qualifies for credit.
CLE Accreditation
Many states, including Minnesota, accept law school courses towards CLE requirements. Lawyers admitted in the state of Minnesota can claim one CLE credit for every 60 minutes of attendance at a regular course offered by a law school approved by the American Bar Association. The attendance must have occurred after the lawyer was admitted in Minnesota. The total hours of coursework covered by the program that would qualify for CLE credit is 45 hours and will cover at least three hours of ethics, and over two hours of elimination of bias.
Grading and credits
Students will be awarded a letter grade on an A–F scale based on criteria announced by each faculty member.
Acceptance of any credit or grade for any course taken in the program is subject to determination by the participant’s home school. Students interested in using credits earned in a foreign study program to accelerate graduation should consult with their home school to determine if the acceleration is a possibility considering ABA Standard 304, Interpretation 304-4.
Cancellation or changes in the program
Mitchell Hamline reserves the right to alter or cancel this program for limited enrollment or if exceptional circumstances (natural disaster, war, political unrest, pandemic, or similar emergency) occur.
Please note that we must follow Mitchell Hamline School of Law, United States and Kosovo COVID and other health guidelines, which may impact our ability to offer this program in the summer of 2025.
Mitchell Hamline shall promptly notify you if a U.S. State Department travel warning is issued for Kosovo, if there is a major alteration of the program, or if the program is cancelled.
In the event of program cancellation, Mitchell Hamline shall refund you all deposits, tuition, and fees. By request, the director shall use best efforts to arrange for you to attend a similar program.
In the event of material program alteration, you may cancel by sending a letter stating your intentions and request a refund of tuition and fees within seven days of notification.
Mitchell Hamline shall issue refunds within 20 days after program cancellation or receipt of your cancellation letter following notification of a material program alteration.
Mitchell Hamline shall only provide refunds if the program is cancelled, there is a material alteration of the program, or there is substantial change to the current travel warning.
Should the in-person Kosovo program be cancelled, students may choose to attend the identical program which will be offered in person at Mitchell Hamline School of Law and online with the same international faculty. There will be no additional tuition or fees.
International (COVID) advisory
In the event that U.S. residents are not permitted to enter the Kosovo, the program will be cancelled. Please see U.S. state department advisories.
Program refund policy
There will be no tuition refunds for those who withdraw from a course after June 2, 2025.
Registration Fee: $450 registration fee is NOT refundable but is fully applicable towards tuition.
Cancellation of program or course by Mitchell Hamline policy
Should the program or a course be cancelled by Mitchell Hamline, all tuition deposits will be returned in full.
In the event of a course cancellation, Mitchell Hamline will endeavor to offer the same course with the same faculty remotely through distance learning. A student may elect to take the same courses with the same instructors remotely.
Please note that the Mitchell Hamline School of Law study abroad program is contingent upon sufficient enrollment. In the event that the program is canceled due to low enrollment, students who have enrolled will receive a full refund of any fees paid.
International transportation
Participants are responsible for arranging their own international transportation to and from Kosovo.
Other provisions
Amounts stated in this agreement pertain to the International Comparative Law summer abroad program only. By signing the application, the participant authorizes Mitchell Hamline School of Law to send an official transcript to the signee’s law school (listed on the signee’s application) following the completion of the program. Transcripts will not be issued to participants who are indebted to Mitchell Hamline School of Law. The college will add to a student’s indebtedness any attorney fees or other costs and charges incurred by the law school in collecting past-due obligations.
Liability schedules for tuition
PAYMENT: Tuition fees for International Comparative Law program are due and payable in full by 9 am on Friday, May 23, 2025. You can pay online via CASHNet.
· A late payment charge of .67% per month (8% per annum) will be applied to any balance remaining unpaid after May 23, 2025. Tuition: If a participant withdraws from the International Comparative Law course sessions or reduces credit load, the amount of tuition refunded will be based on the percentage of the enrollment period completed, except that no refund will be made to participants who complete at least 60% of the enrollment period.
Release
The International Comparative Law summer abroad program is offered solely as a convenience for law students. Participation is entirely voluntary. It is up to law students who choose to participate to make their own travel arrangements to, from, and while in Kosovo. Neither Mitchell Hamline School of Law nor other participating law schools have any responsibility or liability for those arrangements.
Participants must make their own insurance and medical arrangements before leaving for Kosovo. Neither Mitchell Hamline School of Law nor other participating law schools provide insurance coverage or arrange medical care for participants enrolled in the International Comparative Law summer abroad program, nor do they have any liability for acting or failing to act in situations requiring emergency medical care.
Neither Mitchell Hamline School of Law nor any of its trustees, faculty, or staff will be liable for any loss, injury, or damage to persons or property that may be incurred in connection with the events, activities, accommodations, transportation, or other services associated with or incidental to the International Comparative Law program. This release includes any
loss, injury, or damage that is the result of any activity or passive negligence on the part of the college, its trustees, faculty, or staff. Participating law schools and their trustees, faculty, and staff shall have no liability or responsibility for any additional expense or liability sustained or incurred as a result of any of the aforementioned causes.
