Blended-learning student FAQs
-
What section am I in?
Each incoming blended learning cohort is divided into three sections: B1, B2, and B3. You were assigned a section upon admission, please check your admission letter for your specific section or email [email protected] to confirm. -
Who is my academic advisor?
Your assigned academic advisor is listed on your MyMitchellHamline student portal under My Academics ⇒ Academic Advising ⇒ Academic Advising Appointments. -
When is my prep week and capstone week?
All dates are listed on the academic calendar. Look under the “Blended Part-Time” column, then your specific section to find the associated dates. -
How do I register for classes?
Click here for detailed registration instructions. The school assigns first-year students to sections, and students are registered by the Office of the Registrar prior to the start of their first term. 1L courses are auto-enrolled and cannot be changed. -
Can I take J-Term classes?
1L students cannot register for J-Term courses per academic rule 1.07.H. Students can register for J-Term courses beginning in their 2L year. -
Can I take summer classes?
Yes. Summer classes are not required but they are a great way to earn more credits during the school year. -
As a part-time Blended student, can I go full time?
Yes. Although the program is called “Part-time Blended,” you are not restricted to a part-time course load (8-11 credits) after you complete your first year. Because the second year is intensive and classes are designed to be experienced as they are scheduled, we recommend that Blended students who wish to go full time do so beginning in their third year. Speak to your academic advisor for more information. -
How do I know which classes to take?
Besides courses that fulfill your JD requirements and any additional requirements like academic support courses, classes can be chosen based on other factors such as certificate requirements, interest in a particular area of the law, or courses that cover bar-tested subjects (click here for NextGen bar topics). Your academic advisor is a great resource for course selection and planning, and the Degree Planning Resources page on the Academic Affairs website can help you plan your academic path. -
How do I sign up for externships?
Some externships are set up by Mitchell Hamline and available for students to register in like any other course (assuming all prerequisites are met and the student is able to abide by the modality meeting rules). Students may also set up their own externship experience by filling out the externship proposal form located on 12twenty. After proposals are reviewed and approved, students are directed to enroll in the appropriate externship course.
