Director, Admissions
Julie Olmsted (she/her) graduated from William Mitchell College of Law—a Mitchell Hamline predecessor—in 2008. She has a B.A. in English from St. Cloud State University, and an M.Ed. in college student affairs from the University of South Florida.
Before law school, Julie worked for five years in higher education, advising student organizations and managing campus activities at several universities. In law school, she interned with the Ninth Judicial Circuit Office of the Public Defender; studied abroad in Mexico; participated in the Immigration Clinic, Misdemeanor Clinic, and an MJF placement with a criminal defense attorney; and was recognized by MJF for her Achievement in Volunteer Public Service.
Julie’s parents died in her late 20s, which shifted her worldview and her path. She began practicing estate planning, started her own solo firm, and won Minnesota Women’s Press’ “Favorite Woman Estate Planner” three times. She later worked as the managing director of a legal nonprofit that helps cancer patients with legal issues surrounding their diagnosis. She has volunteered at Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota and done outreach projects with Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid.
Julie loves to bake, will watch documentaries on absolutely any subject, and attends the Minnesota State Fair at least three times a year. She lives in the south metro with her family.
