James A. Baker retired as intellectual property counsel at 3M Innovative Properties Company. James began his 3M career in 1987 after earning a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Washington. After graduating from William Mitchell College of Law in 2003, Dr. Baker worked as an intellectual property associate with Shumaker and Sieffert, and held the position of vice president and intellectual property counsel with Samsung Electronics Corporation before rejoining 3M in 2006. Dr. Baker’s technical expertise is in the field of colloid and interface science, with emphasis on dispersion science and coating rheology. He is also named as an inventor on 63 U.S. patents and is registered to practice before the USPTO and the Minnesota courts. His practice included patent preparation, prosecution, and litigation on a worldwide basis; IP transactional work; and general client counseling.
