Scholarship aimed at women and minority students
Those who knew Lawrence “Larry” King consistently describe him as kind, compassionate, funny, and dignified.
A graduate of Hamline University School of Law, one of Mitchell Hamline School of Law’s predecessor schools, King practiced law for 35 years, starting at Murnane Brandt and going on to become a founding member of two firms, King and Hatch and then Larson · King. He was a highly regarded trial lawyer, trying more than 100 cases to verdict.
He was equally proud of his work outside the courtroom and in the community. He was a longtime supporter of legal aid and pro bono organizations, and under his leadership the firm created the Larson · King Foundation, which contributes to local charities and nonprofits.
King was dedicated to improving diversity in the legal profession. He was a member of the board of directors of Twin Cities Diversity in Practice and was a loyal supporter of female lawyers.
In 2014, following King’s death, Larson · King along with Larry’s childhood friend and fellow Hamline Law alum Steve Kirsch ’76 and his wife, Ruth, established this endowment fund in his memory. As one of King’s colleagues at the firm wrote: “Many remember Larry for his exceptional talent in the courtroom and his command of the law and his clients’ business. Most, however, remember him as a true gentleman—a man whose sincerity, integrity, and class are often missing in today’s legal profession.”
