Mission
The mission of Mitchell Hamline’s Child Protection Program is to promote legal-system reform on behalf of children and families through education and training, research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the development of best practices in child protection.
Thanks to support from the Justice Helen M. Meyer Endowment and from others, Mitchell Hamline is now home to a nationally recognized and innovative Child Protection Program. Our goal is to expand the program and offer more ways to ensure best practices in child protection through:
- Education: Training current and future attorneys in the area of child protection is essential to promoting this important work and achieving best practices across the judicial system.
- Research: The law school is an incubator for new ideas. It provides the perfect academic setting to study new trauma based practices in the child protection system on a small scale to assess their effectiveness. We can help drive system change with what we learn.
- Innovative Collaboration: We are are a community resource for interdisciplinary collaboration—sharing our work, research findings, and best practices with legal and child-welfare professionals through publications and through conferences.
