Long-term off-campus experiences
At Mitchell Hamline, we offer a variety of opportunities for students in their third or fourth years to secure long-term, on-site placements working under the supervision of practicing attorneys. It’s a key part of our bridge-to-practice programming, offering experienced students a close-up look at the world of legal work.
We offer two tracks:
Legal Residency Program
For students in their final semester of law school, spring semester only.
The Legal Residency Program is a collaboration between the law school and the area’s legal practitioners. Its goal is to better train and prepare law students for the practice of law.
Semester in Practice
Immerse yourself in a specialty of your choice.
Our self-designed Semester-in-Practice program is an excellent way for you to earn 10 to 12 academic credits while exploring an area of law that interests you, whether in the Twin Cities or another location in the country. Through this program, you can:
- Put your legal knowledge into the context of real practice
- Sharpen lawyering skills you learned in class, labs, clinics, and externships
- Build relationships in the legal community
