There are still placements remaining for the Fall 2021 Law and Business Externship.
Students need to be able to work in person or remotely as the placement requests and will work on a variety of business-related matters in either a law firm or in-house legal department setting. Students take the externship for 3-4 credits and work 13-15 hours a week at the placement site.
Eligible students must have completed their first year of law school and have an interest in business law. Professional Responsibility and Business Organizations are pre-requisites but may be waived with approval from the professor.
Placements will be assigned to qualified students on a first come, first served basis.
Examples of possible placements include:
• An in-house legal department in the Twin Cities offering a general corporate and transactional law experience; student would need to be available to work in person or remotely as the company needs.
• An in-house legal department in the Twin Cities working primarily on cybersecurity matters; this would be a remote-only position for the fall semester.
• A small law firm in the Twin Cities that practices business law, employment law, tax law, and occasionally other matters including personal injury and family law; student would need to be available to work in person or remotely as the firm needs.
• A solo law firm in Michigan that practices business law. Work could be done in person or remotely.
If you are interested in an externship for the fall semester, please email Professor Fuith (leanne.fuith@mitchellhamline.edu) at your earliest possible convenience. Include a copy of your resume and unofficial Mitchell Hamline transcript and indicate the type of experience you are interested in.
