Are you interested in getting some hands-on experience interviewing and helping clients? The Mitchell Hamline Self Help Clinic is reopening this Fall and is open to ALL students—yes, even 1Ls! The Self Help Clinic is located in the Kelley Board Room on the second floor of the MHSL Law Library and offers Family Law and Criminal Expungement services to members of our local communities.
The Clinic takes place during the semester on Saturday mornings from 10am-12pm, with the exception of no clinic the week of Fall Break. Please review the following information and then fill out this GOOGLE FORM by Friday, September 10, to officially sign-up to volunteer this semester.
Training
All students are required to attend mandatory training on Saturday, September 18th from 8:30a-9:30a. Training will be offered in a “Hy-Flex” format, so students can choose to attend in-person (breakfast provided) or join online via Zoom. If you are unable to attend this training, please reach out to Zoe to schedule an alternative.
Scheduling
After submitting the Google Form, students will be scheduled for shifts. Students are expected to be checked-in at the Clinic at 9:45am on the mornings they are scheduled. Breakfast is provided every week so please indicate in the Form if you have any dietary restrictions. 😊
If a student is unable to attend their scheduled shift, we expect them to try to find a replacement and contact their Clinic Director. Students will receive a copy of the entire clinic schedule so they will be able to see who is and is not scheduled, to assist with filling/swapping shifts.
COVID-19 Protocols
The Clinic follows all safety guidelines set forth by Mitchell Hamline. Students and Clinic Clients are required to be fully vaccinated to be in the building. The school is also currently requiring everyone to wear face masks. If the school does lift the face mask requirement, please note that Student Volunteers AND Clients will still be required to wear face masks when inside the interview rooms for the remainder of Fall semester.
The Clinic will also be changing our “interview rooms” to the larger classrooms on the 200-level to allow for adequate social distancing between students, clients, and attorneys. Clinic staff will sanitize surfaces in the interview rooms between each appointment. Lastly, if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, please let us know and stay home!
Thank you! We wouldn’t be able to provide this great resource to our local communities without our wonderful student volunteers. 😊
