What is the program? Personal and individualized career & college support between a North High School (NHS) Buddy and a College & Career Center (CCC) Buddy from one of the Twin Cities law schools.
What do I do?*
Law Student Volunteer: (Time Commitment: Minimum 50-hour commitment preferred)
**MJF volunteer hours available**
- Assist a North High School student in navigating post-high school life skills. (i.e., college/trade preparation and planning, FAFSA application support, job search coaching, budgeting, and apartment searching.)
- Reports NHS Buddy’s progress and career/college plan to Graduate Volunteer Advisor.
- CCC Buddies do not provide legal advice.
- Directs questions re: potential legal advice to Attorney Volunteer.
- Presence. Attending on-campus TBP events (as permitted by COVID-19), typically Friday evenings from 4-6PM
Graduate Volunteer Advisor: (Time commitment: bi-weekly)
- Assigned to a class (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior) of Buddy pairings.
- Reports class progress to the program director in an end-of-month email report. (i.e. report number of pairings, engagement, and goals)
- Forward any legal clarification questions to Attorney Volunteer Advisor.
- Presence. Attending on-campus TBP events (as permitted by COVID-19), typically Friday evenings from 4-6PM
Attorney Volunteer Advisor: (Time commitment: intermittently or as needed)
- Assigned to a class (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior) of Buddy pairings.
- Networking & mentoring both law students and high school students.
- Reports outreach metrics & program needs to the Graduate Buddy.
- Presence. Attending on-campus TBP events (as permitted by COVID-19), typically Friday evenings from 4-6PM
