Tackling the Student Debt Crisis
Wednesday, August 17, 2022
12:00 PM to 1:00 PM CST
Live Webinar via Zoom
Event Description:
A 2020 survey from the American Bar Association found the average debt for law school graduates has increased to more than $150,000—a staggering amount affecting new law lawyers as well as clients, the legal profession, and the economy.
Student debt disrupts the professional and personal trajectory of more than 80% of those who borrow money for their JD degrees causing them to weigh salary more heavily in job selection or put off major life milestones. New lawyers of color are disproportionately impacted by student debt. Many new lawyers work at lower-paying public sector jobs following graduation and two-thirds of lawyers say they suffer from high or overwhelming stress because of their student debt and their debt often increases after graduating law school.
Join us for a conversation about the impact of law student debt on new lawyers, our clients, and the legal profession’s commitment to access to justice and what the current administration and the legal community can do to tackle the student debt crisis.
