NEWS FLASH
Puerto Rico has been hit by yet another devasting hurricane!
Hurricane Fiona was a category 1 storm with 85 mph winds that hit the southwestern corner of Puerto Rico.
Rain and high winds have been the main source of devastation, causing significant tree and power outages.
Currently, 90% of the island is without power and 25% of the island’s population is without water.
This happened 5 years after the passing of Hurricane Maria in September 2014.
How can we help?
The Latine Law Student’s Organization and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are joining together to gather supplies to send to our Puerto Rican friends. We are asking for the following donations:
- Over-the-counter medication
- Diapers (adult and baby)
- First-Aid Kits
- Wet Wipes
- Toothbrushes
- Water purification tablets
- Hygiene products
- Toiletries
We will have donation boxes at our front entrance beginning Thursday, September 22 until Friday, October 7. The organization we will be sending items to is called “Taller Salud,” a community-based organization working directly on the grounds in Puerto Rico. To learn more about their organization, please visit their website: https://www.english.tallersalud.com
Attached please find a flyer to share with students, staff, community leaders, etc. Non-Mitchell Hamline folks are welcome to also stop by to drop off supplies.
