Second, third, and fourth-year students are invited to apply to serve as remote or in-person Legal Writing Assistants (LWAs) in Mitchell Hamline’s new Research & Writing Center for the 2022-2023 academic year. Experience as an LWA is a great way to demonstrate strong research and writing skills to prospective employers, especially law firms and judges.
Legal Writing Assistants will work with students one-on-one in person and on Zoom. LWAs will help first-year students improve their analytical, research, and writing skills by providing tutoring related to assignments in LARC and potentially other writing classes.
LARC Writing Assistants will receive training on effective teaching and learning strategies.
Qualifications:
- Strong analytical, research, and writing skills and an understanding of the research and writing process.
- Ability to work effectively with students from groups underrepresented in the legal profession.
- Interest in creating engaging written and multi-media resources for the Research & Writing Center.
- Work-study eligibility preferred.
- Availability some evenings and weekends.
LWAs will be able to work a flexible schedule and should expect to work approximately 5-10 hours per week.
Compensation: $13.50-$14.50 per hour.
To apply, please submit a cover letter and resume to Liz Graupman, the Coordinator of the Research & Writing Center at liz.graupman@mitchellhamline.edu. Your cover letter should address the reasons you are interested in the position and how your experience in LARC and other classes has prepared you to help other students.
Please submit your materials by Friday October 21, 2022 but we will consider applications until the positions are all filled.
