We’re so used to seeing shiny resumes and career highlights on social media, but rarely do we see the sometimes harrowing and oftentimes wondering story behind it.
In this program, Jordana Alter Cofino and Ashley Menzies Babatunde will discuss overcoming setbacks and offer guidance for law students and recent graduates navigating their legal careers. Ashley will share her personal struggle with the bar exam and unpack some of the lessons learned along the way, including practical tips for overcoming career setbacks. Ashley and Jordana will also discuss reining in perfectionism and redefining self-worth and how to cultivate a growth mindset to achieve wellbeing and success as an attorney.

Ashley Menzies Babatunde is a big law attorney and storyteller passionate about the intersection of humanity and career. She is a Millennial figuring out how to create structural changes that make companies and the world at large more human-centered. Ashley grew up in Los Angeles with Black American and Guyanese roots. After attending Stanford and Harvard Law School, Ashley had to combat her struggle with perfectionism while navigating a major career setback. She quickly realized that the world often sees the highlights and not the story behind it, and she is now on a mission to share the human stories behind success through her podcast No Straight Path.
Jordana Alter Confino is the Assistant Dean of Professionalism and an Adjunct Professor at Fordham Law School, where she leads initiatives designed to promote student wellness, mentorship, and professional identity formation, and teaches “Positive Lawyering” – a course dedicated to teaching students how they can harness the insights and science-backed strategies of positive psychology to reach their highest potential and build meaningful, satisfying careers in law. She is also a professional coach and partners with organizations to advance the well-being of the legal profession by building positive institutional cultures.
