Apply to be the Student Administrator for the Warren E. Burger Inn of Court
The Warren E. Burger American Inn of Court (“Inn”) was organized in 1989 and was chartered by the American Inns of Court Foundation on September 20, 1989. The Inn is affiliated with Mitchell Hamline School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. Twin Cities attorneys and judges, including many Mitchell Hamline alumni, from a wide range of practice areas are members of the Inn of Court and meet monthly for networking, collegiality, and professional education and connections.
Student Administrator Responsibilities
Each year, Mitchell Hamline hires an Inn of Court Student Administrator (“Student Administrator”) to work with the judges, attorneys, and law students who manage and/or belong to the Inn of Court.
The Student Administrator works with the Inn of Court leadership to coordinate the Inn of Court’s activities and is primarily responsible for
- scheduling, coordinating, preparing for, and hosting monthly Inn of Court meetings and programming,
- managing membership of attorneys and judges to the Inn of Court,
- facilitating approval of CLE content presented at monthly Inn of Court meetings,
- meeting monthly with the leadership of the Inn of Court,
- coordinating monthly with law student members of the Inn of Court, and
- providing other support that may be necessary in the successful execution of the Inn of Court’s activities each year.
Eligibility: The Student Administrator is a second, third, or fourth-year law student who is currently enrolled at Mitchell Hamline School of Law. The Student Administrator must be in academic good standing with Mitchell Hamline School of Law, work-study eligible, and successfully able to support the activities of the Inn of Court remotely and in person in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Key Competencies: Key competencies for a successful Student Administrator include: Attendance and Punctuality, Excellent Communication (Written and Oral) and Interpersonal Skills, Client Service, Event Planning and Management, Organization and Planning, Problem Solving, Professionalism, Analysis, Management, and Evaluation of Information.
Time Commitment: The Student Administrator is a one-year commitment (May 2023-May 2024 including the summer months), although a selected student could choose to stay in the role for a second year and student administrators in the past have done so.
The number of hours worked each month varies, but an average of 12-16 hours per month is anticipated. The Inn of Court hosts monthly meetings from September through May of each year on Wednesday evenings. Meetings may be held virtually or in person in St. Paul as the Inn of Court leadership determines. The Student Administrator is required to attend the monthly meetings.
Compensation: The Student Administrator is compensated at the applicable federal work study rate. Selected students must be work study eligible to meet candidacy requirements. Work study eligibility can be confirmed with the Mitchell Hamline Office of Financial Aid.
Supervision: The Student Administrator takes work direction from the President of the Inn of Court or their designee in the performance of Inn-related responsibilities. Professor Fuith oversees the Inn of Court program.
