New Fall Externship Opportunity!
The Honorable Jerry W. Blackwell (U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota) is seeking a part-time Extern for the upcoming Fall 2023 Semester. While Judge Blackwell is seeking an Extern that can work on Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday, the position would be flexible to allow the Extern to pick the number of hours and day(s) (within those options) to be at the courthouse.
Although this externship is unpaid, students will have the opportunity to observe court proceedings, to learn generally about the federal court system, and to assist the chambers through legal research and writing.
Please note:
- This is an in-person opportunity.
- Students externing in the U.S. District for the District of Minnesota cannot hold other legal positions during that same period.
How to Apply:
Interested law students should send their resume, transcript, and cover letter to blackwell_chambers@mnd.uscourts.gov ASAP, no later than by noon (12pm CST) on Friday, July 28, 2023.
For all future terms, students can send their materials to the chambers email during the semester preceding the externship term.
Mitchell Hamline Academic Credit Guidelines:

Externship students must submit an online externship proposal using the link in their student record. Further information and instructions will be sent to the student once the proposal is submitted. Residency students must contact Externship Director Denise Roy for instructions on how to proceed.
