Conquering the Stereotypes of Fraternities and Phi Alpha Delta
When many students hear the word “fraternity” they automatically begin to think about the stereotypes that come with that word which may include hazing, extensive mandatory meetings, elitism/exclusivity, and toxic environments. Phi Alpha Delta International Law Fraternity stands out as a unique organization that defies these misconceptions. Unlike traditional undergraduate fraternities, P.A.D places a strong emphasis on professional development, networking, and academic excellence within the field of law. Members of P.A.D are dedicated to upholding the highest ethical standards and making a positive impact in their communities through legal service, advocacy, and volunteer work.
Are there mandatory meetings while you are a member of Phi Alpha Delta?
Given that many of us are blended students, there will be no mandatory meetings. However, there may be meetings over zoom or during capstone weeks that you are encouraged and welcome to attend. We all have busy lives and of course, school. We want to be respectful of your time and encourage participation at any level.
Is there any type of hazing or initiation I will need to go through in order to be a member?
Phi Alpha Delta prohibits condemns hazing on any level. Instead, we offer an in-person and Zoom friendly initiation at the beginning of every year. You will receive your certificate and get to meet other members of the fraternity at this event.
What types of events does Phi Alpha Delta hold?
Because we are a blended group of BAM and Blended students, the events that we hold are minimal, however, we are hoping to host more events this upcoming year and would love to brainstorm with current members on how we can do this! As well as events at Mitchell Hamline, we also coordinate with other local chapters and alumni to put together special events for P.A.D members.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to email phialphadelta@mitchellhamline.edu and we would be happy to answer any and all questions you may have before deciding to join!
Upcoming Events:
With initiation right around the corner, the Phi Alpha Executive Board is planning our initiation and will have details about this year’s initiation within the coming weeks. Keep your eye out for more PAD emails that will have the details to the initiation event!
