The Access to Justice Policy Subcommittee of the MN State Bar Association is working on a project exploring ways to get more attorneys engaged in pro bono work. The project is focused on the Emeritus Rule that allows retired attorneys to continue to provide pro bono services to individuals in need.
Currently very few attorneys take advantage of this rule and the MSBA would like to increase participation by studying the rule and helping to advertise the option to the legal community.
The Access to Justice committee is looking for student volunteers to help research how other states have implemented their Emeritus Attorney Rule to see if there are opportunities to improve Minnesota’s rule. Volunteers would receive supervision from members of the MSBA committee and would get to learn about access to justice topics.
Research can be completed remotely and on the volunteer’s own schedule.
