Now is the time to apply for financial aid!
Financial aid application process
Mitchell Hamline’s Financial Aid web page provides useful application information, important dates, financial aid amounts, and program information.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) located at www.fafsa.ed.gov, establishes annual access to federal student loans and the federal work-study program. Complete the FAFSA using Mitchell Hamline’s school code, G02391, and we’ll receive your application. You will need a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID to sign the application. You can retrieve your FSA ID or apply for a one at www.fafsa.gov. Federal student loan terms, promissory notes, and repayment options are available at www.studentloans.gov.
After we receive your FAFSA we’ll email your Mitchell Hamline School of Law Financial Aid Eligibility Letter listing the types and amounts of institutional and federal financial aid you are eligible to receive. You are not obligated in any way to borrow the offered loan amounts. Your individual expenses may be less than the amounts we estimate, and you are welcome to borrow as much of the offered loan as you wish. Student loan debt is a serious matter. We encourage wise and modest borrowing.
Deposited students receive a Mitchell Hamline student ID which provides web access to the interactive Mitchell Hamline Online Financial Aid System. The interactive online location provides consumer information, informational links, your financial aid eligibility, and processing requirements.
Financial aid disbursements and fall refunds will not be issued until early September. Be prepared to purchase your books in advance of the refund disbursements for the start of class in August.

Planning ahead
Students should be aware that tuition for J.D. students at Mitchell Hamline has been increasing at an annual rate of 3.5% for three years in a row. While this could change, our current projections assume a similar increase in each of the next several years. Tuition is set annually by the Board of Trustees, and there is no guarantee of how large or small an increase may be in any given year.
Most scholarships are based on a fixed percentage of tuition, therefore, assuming a student remains in good standing, the scholarship will also apply to any tuition increases in subsequent years. For example, a scholarship that covers 20% of tuition in Year 1 will cover 20% of the cost of tuition in Years 2, 3, and 4 (if applicable), regardless of tuition increases.
