Guthmann ’80 received a President’s Award from the Minnesota District Judges Association for “dedicated commitment and leadership in helping to pass the 2024 Judicial Court Staff Safety and Privacy Act” during the 2024 Minnesota legislative session. in July 2024, Judge Guthmann was appointed by the Minnesota Supreme Court to serve as an Acting Supreme Court Justice in the case of MacDonald v. Simon. His duties ended upon publication of the opinion in October. He retired from the Ramsey County bench upon turning the mandatory retirement age. His retirement was effective on October 31, 2024. Following retirement, Judge Guthmann will continue to work as a Senior Judge in the State of Minnesota and also as a private mediator and arbitrator with the Larson King law firm.
