Dorsey & Whitney LLP and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law have two exciting opportunities for law students to facilitate election protection efforts in the Twin Cities: hotline volunteers and field volunteers. These opportunities present a unique way to work alongside local attorneys doing the important work of protecting our electoral process and helping constituents exercise their right to vote. Shifts are available on November 7th and 8th in increments of approximately 4 hours. Sign up to volunteer by clicking on this link.
Hotline volunteers are needed to staff the national, non-partisan voter hotline (866-OUR-VOTE), which guides voters through the voting process and provides assistance when problems arise. The hotline will be hosted by Dorsey & Whitney LLP in its downtown Minneapolis offices on November 7th and 8th, and will cover Minnesota and up to five other Midwestern states. Field volunteers are needed to provide on-the-ground voter assistance services at polling locations throughout the Twin Cities metro area on November 8th. Field volunteers will receive instructions on their specific field assignments prior to Election Day.
All volunteers will need to attend a training session (either in-person at Dorsey or Mitchell Hamline, or online). The training will cover basic Minnesota voting law and resources available to volunteers during their shifts. When registering, you will be asked to select a training session to attend. Students are highly encouraged to attend one of the live training sessions, as it will give you an opportunity to meet and engage with local attorneys.
Election Protection is the nation’s largest non-partisan voter protection coalition and helps all voters across the country. The hotline and field programs are part of a non-partisan effort and is not affiliated in any way with any candidate or political party.
