Robins Kaplan is a firm of 230+ attorneys, headquartered in Minneapolis, with offices in Boston, Los Angeles, Silicon Valley, New York, and North and South Dakota. Our ideal candidates have an interest in pursuing trial work and litigation and want to start their career in the very livable Minneapolis/St. Paul area. We are, first and foremost, experienced courtroom lawyers. We represent businesses and individuals as both plaintiffs and defendants. Our alternative fee arrangements align our firm’s risk with those of the client. And, we staff our teams not only with experienced lawyers, but also with non-lawyers, including scientists, financial professionals and consultants. Students can refer to our website (www.RobinsKaplan.com) to get a sense of the types of litigation we handle.
We try cases. From the moment we become involved in a matter, we prepare as though our client’s case will be decided by a jury—a perspective that shapes all strategic and tactical decisions throughout the litigation process.
Our different backgrounds and perspectives make us stronger and enrich our practice of law. That is why we are committed to enhancing gender, racial, ethnic, and LGBTQ diversity within our firm. Our Leaders Engaged in the Advancement of Diversity (LEAD) Initiative empowers firm leaders to take ownership of diversity through the implementation of eight tactics in the areas of recruitment, retention, and advancement. We have been among the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Best Places to Work since 2011, scoring 100% on the Corporate Equity Index.
Our associate and summer associate training programs provide early and vigorous trial training for associates and greater opportunities to talk with and seek advice about effective advocacy from experienced lawyers at our firm. The firm is regularly ranked as a Top 20 Firm for training by the VAULT Top 100 Survey. In 2018, The American Lawyer ranked us #1 in Minneapolis for both Associate and Summer Associate satisfaction.
We have had the good fortune to work with outstanding clients, both corporate and individual, on a number of noteworthy causes. We remain committed to our bedrock belief that the justice system be open to everyone, regardless of economic or social status. We also believe that doing well places a special responsibility to give back to those in need. Since 2008, more than 7% of the firm’s total billable hours have been contributed to pro bono legal services. In 2020, the firm was ranked among the top 20 firms in the nation for pro bono work by The American Lawyer. In 2018 the ABA recognized the Chair of our Pro Bono Committee with their Pro Bono Publico Award. The firm was also recognized by the National Law Journal in 2016, 2017, and 2019 on its Pro Bono Hotlist.
At our firm we surround ourselves with talented people who have a strong work ethic. The goal of our summer associate program is simple—to give our summer associates a realistic view of the practice of law at our firm. Because of the small size of our summer associate program (we anticipate hiring only three or four 2L students), we are taking a different approach to recruiting our 2022 summer associates and will not interview on campus this summer. Instead, we encourage 2L students from Mitchell Hamline School of Law to apply directly through our website (www.robinskaplan.com/careers) before August 6 – and we hope that we will get the opportunity to meet applicants from your school!
