Law and Business Certificate with Intellectual Property Concentration
Mitchell Hamline’s Law and Business certificate with IP concentration builds J.D. students’ familiarity with the business of IP law. It supplements the J.D. degree and fully prepares students for the increased demand by individuals and companies who seek to protect their intellectual property rights.
To earn the Certificate in Law and Business with IP Concentration, students must complete a rigorous course of study that includes foundational, required, and elective courses in a range of business and IP topics including accounting and finance, organizational structure and governance, copyright, trade secret, trademark and patent law. Students will also gain practical experience in business and IP through the Law and Business Externship program or equivalent clinic, externship, or work experience.
The following program description applies to the regular on-campus student body.
To obtain the Certificate in Bank Compliance, a student must complete the Foundational Courses and Required Courses listed below as well as eight (8) credits of electives from the Elective Courses listed below.

- Income Tax (Tax 1)
- Intellectual Property Survey
Foundational Courses and Required Courses may not be used to satisfy the Elective Course requirement. Courses used to satisfy the Practical Experi-ence Requirement also may not be used to satisfy the Elective Course requirement.
