Minnesota Public Interest Research Group (MPIRG) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that is funded and directed by students. As a statewide advocacy group, MPIRG provides students the opportunity to speak out on public issues and work for social change. Mitchell Hamline students have the opportunity to serve on the local board, participate in the Public Interest Internship Program, or lobby through the Administrative Law Clinic.
The optional fee paid by students allows MPIRG to hire a professional staff to conduct lobbying, litigation, organizing, and research on our behalf. During past years, staff and students worked to stop cuts in financial aid, limit telephone and gas rate hikes, protect the environment, promote renewable energy, and defend the rights of students and consumers.
By contractual agreement between Mitchell Hamline and MPIRG, the college serves as a collection agency for the MPIRG fee. The fee may be added to the comprehensive fee statement for all students. The fee is $8.25 per term. Payment of the fee is voluntary.
