An email has recently been received purporting to be from the Dean and inquiring if the recipient had received the previous email that was allegedly sent to the recipient. This is an example of a spear-phishing scheme (see https://searchsecurity.techtarget.com/definition/spear-phishing). The perpetrator hopes that someone will respond, at which point the victim will be asked for more information and possibly directed to a bogus website in order to gain login or other information. As always, if you are not expecting an email from someone, do not click the links or respond, especially if the return address does not match the alleged sender (see below). As always, please notify Information Technology if you have any suspicions.
