The Mobile Law Office (MLO)) – also known as the “Wheels of Justice” — is seeking a student liaison to participate in and provide logistical support for our regularly scheduled MLO visits to area libraries and other community organizations. The Mobile Law Office currently offers free assistance in select areas of family law and criminal expungements and is staffed by student volunteers who are supervised by a licensed attorney. This is a great opportunity for students who are interested in finding new ways to increase access to legal services.
Specific duties include: recruiting and scheduling student volunteers for MLO visits, printing and organizing necessary paperwork specific services, accompanying student volunteers to outreach sites, and provide other administrative support as needed. The student liaison must be available for some, but not all, scheduled MLO visits. The current MLO schedule is every Tuesday, 4:30-7:30 p.m.; several Saturdays per month, 2:00-4:30 p.m.; and possibly Friday afternoons (hours TBD), but these hours are subject to change as we add more partner sites.
This is an 8-10 hour/week position during the academic year. Summer hours will be available to interested students. Work-study eligibility preferred but not required (check with the financial aid office to inquire about eligibility).
This position is open to all students who can meet the requirements, but students with concurrent or prior experience in the Self-Help Clinic are especially encouraged to apply.
Interested students should contact Christine Szaj, Vice-President for Community Relations and Operations at Christine.szaj@mitchellhamline.edu.
