The Mitchell Hamline School of Law Institute to Transform Child Protection works towards a more effective nationwide child protection system that preserves families, prevents trauma, and builds resilience within communities.
To achieve that goal the Institute provides its fellow’s opportunity to become skilled, holistic, client-centered attorneys and social workers with the desire to reform the child protection system. The Child Protection Fellowship will enhance our students’ education by providing a related vocational experience.
*Each Fellow selected will receive a grant of $5,000 for 400 hours of work over the course of Summer 2020.
There will be two fellowship options:
Option One:
Central Minnesota Legal Services (CMLS) is a civil legal aid office, serving 21 counties of Minnesota. The Fellow will work with ten attorneys and support staff in our downtown Minneapolis office which primarily serves Hennepin and Anoka residents. Our mission is to advocate for access to the civil justice system for people experiencing poverty providing high-quality legal services and representation. We provide trauma-informed legal services to families and children vulnerable to abuse, violence, neglect, homelessness, or major economic disruptions in their lives.
Option Two:
Institute to Transform Child Protection at Mitchell Hamline School of Law is a non-profit dedicated to working towards a more effective nationwide child protection system that preserves families, prevents trauma, and builds resilience within communities. The Institute utilizes innovative policy, substantive research, community engagement, and a multi-disciplinary, trauma-informed approach to parent representation to strive towards smarter systems and stronger families.
